In 13 years of photographing weddings, I have never seen anything like this, so buckle up for a wild wedding story!
Sophia and Alec had spent over a year planning a large wedding for May 2024, but in January, they decided to completely change course. With just three weeks’ notice, they planned an intimate Boston elopement on their five-year anniversary, February 1st.
They arrived at their original venue only to find out they wouldn’t be allowed to hold a ceremony there – only take photos. In a matter of minutes, they pivoted and ran down the street to the Omni Parker House Hotel in downtown Boston, where their parents were staying. The incredible staff offered them the historic room where JFK held his bachelor party, and Alec’s father officiated a tear-filled ceremony surrounded by both families. During the vows, a manager sprinted to the kitchen and returned with one of the hotel’s famous Boston cream pies with a personalized message of congratulations on the plate. The couple enjoyed the dessert during a champagne toast shared with the hotel staff that turned their wedding nightmare into a wedding dream.
They took a white town car to the iconic and historic Quincy Market at Faneuil Hall, where they sat at a lunch counter and ordered lobster rolls to celebrate becoming husband and wife! After a delicious little appetizer and plenty of photos, they joined their families at Bostonia Public House to cut their vintage heart-shaped lambeth cake and enjoy lunch.
As a Boston wedding photographer, moments like these remind me that the best wedding stories are the ones full of heart, flexibility, and joy. Sophia and Alec handled every twist with grace and gratitude, and now have a once-in-a-lifetime story to tell for generations.
