Behind the Scenes with Lena 2024

2024: what a year. I had the honor and pleasure of photographing weddings, elopements, and engagements from The Hamptons to Newport, the White Mountains to Connecticut, downtown Boston and plenty in-between.

A few highlights:

30 and thriving: I turned 30 this year, and finished my 14th season photographing weddings. I have gone through so many phases of life, and have felt like an “old lady” for a while now. I’m fully embracing my first grey hairs found this summer, focusing on my health and wellness, and am leaning into a slower, more peaceful life. I move my body daily on walks or in the gym, and have found so much mental clarity through joyful movement. Wedding days don’t “kick my ass” as much as they used to! I’m so excited for all the opportunities and adventured this next decade will bring.

Just book the trip: Following the huge travel year of 2023, we returned to our favorite sentimental spots on Martha’s Vineyard, in New York City, and Chicago (where Paul and I fell in love and did long distance for our first few years!) After 9 months of research, planning, and studying Japanese, we traveled 6,703 miles from Boston to TOKYO!!! Japan was the biggest, longest trip of my life to celebrate turning 30. We visited Tokyo, Mt. Fuji / Lake Kawaguchi, Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara. It was the trip of a lifetime. I have always loved Japanese culture, but I have such a deeper appreciation, understanding, and love for it all. I truly cannot WAIT to go back and explore more of their incredible country.

Art art art: After “surviving” art school, it took me years to enjoy visiting museums and galleries again. Sometimes studying a subject and breaking it down to a science can take the fun out of it, but the last few years have been a renaissance of sorts and I love seeing art again. We started 2024 purchasing a piece of art from one of our favorite graffiti artists, and I got another piece for my collection in the fall. We visited the Art Institute of Chicago and checked out all the pieces that Ferris Bueller saw, along with a slew of Chelsea galleries in NYC and Newbury Street in Boston (shoutout DTR Modern, our fave!) Even interactive digital art in Tokyo! Seeing more art means I make better art.

An attitude of gratitude: I have never made better art than this year. I am so wildly proud of the work I delivered this season. My couples were simply the best. They were hilarious, they were kind, they were thoughtful, they were simply perfect. 2024 began by unexpectedly losing my close friend of 25 years, beautiful miss Hayley, but witnessing joy and love buzz through hundreds and hundreds of people while swimming through an endless ocean of grief was a gift. All we can do is keep going. Keep loving, keep appreciating, keep waking up every day and trying to be the best we can be. And with that –

Enjoy a behind the scenes look at my 2024 wedding season!

Thank you to the love of my life / second shooter Brittany, you are the cherry on top of each wedding sundae. It wouldn’t be the same without your fantastic talent!

SELFIE TIME!!!

Thank you to all my couples for trusting me with their wedding photos. Cheers to 2025!

xoxo, Lena
