Why I don’t shoot during dinner – and why that’s actually a good thing.
Nobody looks their best mid-bite. It’s just a fact. Your guests are trying to have a conversation and enjoy a meal, and the last thing they want is a camera appearing over their shoulder while they’re working through a filet. Candid doesn’t have to mean caught off guard.
So during dinner service, I step away and eat. It sounds simple, because it is. The sooner I’m fed, the sooner I’m back on the floor – typically right as the couple starts making their rounds to guest tables, which is exactly when the good moments start happening again anyway.
It’s a natural pause in the day that works in everyone’s favor. Your guests get to relax, and I come back recharged and ready for everything the rest of the night has in store.
